Peak Codes

When reviewing your results in the Review window, you may have noticed the “Peak Codes” column in the Peaks table. Sometimes it’s empty, sometimes there’s a letter with a number – but what does it actually tell you?

These are processing codes – little flags from Empower that give you hints about integration or quantitation. Some are harmless, some signal issues you shouldn’t ignore.

🔍 How to find out what Peak Codes mean?

Open the Empower Help and search for the code (e.g. “I03”). You’ll find a full list under “Interpreting Processing Codes” – super helpful!

💡 Tip: Always take a look at your codes before approving results. They might reveal something you’ve missed.

🚩 While there’s no official “critical list,” watch out for these:

  • I03 – User manually deleted a peak

  • I04 – User manually deleted a drop line

  • Q09 – Result is above the calibration curve

  • Q10 – Result is below the calibration curve

  • Q14 – User manually identified a peak
